Welcome to Theatre North
Theatre North is a professional touring company currently based in the South East. Founded in Yorkshire in 2001 the company has mounted 27 productions from Romeo and Juliet to Blasted and the award winning Lord Arthur’s Bed, which have toured nationally and internationally. More recently the company has specialised in work with a gay sub text – both for gay and straight audiences – producing Naked Homo, Billy Budd Sailor, winner of Star of the Brighton Festival 2011 and E2, based on Marlowe’s Edward II. We are also increasingly interested in the way our work interfaces with Live Art and are working closely with The Basement in Brighton. 2012 saw us tour three shows nationally, a residency at The Basement and a commission from the Brighton Festival. We also strengthened our relationship with Birkbeck University where we performed two of our shows and discussed our working methods and practice. We currently have a new residency at The Basement under the East by South East Programme, performed a short piece as part of the SICK! International Arts Festival and had a week’s residency at The Point, Eastleigh in April followed by a showing of the work we are doing on CODE OF CONDUCT at Under Construiction at The Basement. Our latest production, Handel’s Cross, was premiered at the International Dublin Gay Theatre Festival in May www.gaytheatre.ie and will be followed by a performance in London during the Bikbeck Arts Week. The celebrated composer of Messiah has never been seen in quite this way before………..
